Hi everyone,
I recently set up an African tank, but am regreting my decision doing it. I think I want an Oscar instead. I have a 75 gallon tank and plan on just putting the oscar or JD in by itself, with maybe some kind of pleco. The ques is, shall I take out all the sand and crushed coral that I had to raise the PH and replace with gravel? Could I possibly put a convict in with the Oscar or JD? Or should I just stick with the Oscar/JD by himself.

I only have 20 lbs of crushed coral in the tank, could I add a layer of gravel and put peat in the filter to help lower the ph? Also who has more personaility the Oscar or JD?

I'm a fan of the Electric Blue Jack Dempseys, they're supposed to be less agressive than the originals and they're deffinatly prettier! I can't wait til I get a bigger tank so I can have one.

Eletric Blues arent as hardy as there normal colored brothers n sisters. They have health problems. But me myself I want one of my own as well. Currently I got a breeding pair of JD's which should produce that Electric Blue for me =).

Oscar and JD would be comfy in that tank if kept solo oscars do show more personality and come in many more color variations and patterns JD's stay smaller are colorful and also got alot of personality. Its all just personal choice. Just keep em solo or with a medium sized pleco.

as just a solo fish, i would go with the oscar, i have an oscar and a jd and love them both, but the oscar deff has more personality. But i know not one of your original choices, if you want a solo fish for your 75 with a lot of personality, you could do one red devil cichlid or a midas, 75 is about the smallest tank size i would go with either of these, but they have a lot of personality and are truely amazing fish. we have a red devil as a solo in a 75 gallon and he is slowly becoming one of my favs.
