So a while back I grabbed a BN Pleco for my 30 gallon tank, then I put together a 20 gallon tank and grabbed a BN for that as well. Then i decided I wasnt going to do the 20 gallon and just put the few fish I had into the 30 gallon, including the pleco. A couple weeks later I see little plecos swimming around and now i am estimating there are at least 15-20 plecos in my tank! I haven't taken any special measures for this tank, just filter, bubbler, and 2 small pieces of driftwood. I was amazed, and they continue to breed. Anything special i could do that they would enjoy?

keep them well fed. i dont know if it applies to pleco's, but i know free swimmers and baby fish should be fed at least 3 times a day.

:iagree:They will need veggies too. Microwave a chunk of zucchini and stick a fork or something through it to keep in down. Outer dark green leaves of romaine lettuce are good too. Clip it to the side of the tank. The warm water will eventually soften it enough for the babies to be able to eat it. Congrats and good luck!

ye paperclips should be fine but im not sure if they are heavy enough

BTW plecos randomly breeding like this isnt that common.. your water must be pristine.. grats

even pleco breeders have a tough time with them sometimes.. and there is still hundreds of species of plecos that have never breed in captivity

Granted BNs are fairly easy as far as plecos go.. but I would still consider it an achievment

I would not microwave the zucchini I think it will stay longer in the tank if you just split it down the middile and use something to keep it down. I use nice size rock to wedge it. Good luck

I microwave my zichini when I feed it to my plecos all the time

it softens it up so they can eat it easier.. especially the babies

I would not use a paper clip. They are made very cheaply today of who knows what. Stick a fork through it and put the handle of the fork right into the gravel. That's my method. Some people use a rubber band to attach it to a rock. The fork is easier. You need to microwave the zucchini for baby plecos. They are too little to be able to eat the firm veggie very well.

I stuck a paperclip through some dark romaine leaves and dropped it in. They occasionally go and suckle on it for a bit but no eating frenzy. would they like apples or mango?

Thanks 7itanium, its funny because as horrible as i am for this, this is the tank i take least care of

By the way, can someone give me a quick rundown of fruits/veggies that are not okay for these guys? i know to avoid citrus and obviously pickles :)

thanks in advance
