Hello all,

I have a 75g with: salvini, firemouth, red hump eartheater, honduran red point, and a raphael catfish -- all 2-4". I also have a severum, who I moved out, but who I'll probably want to move back in at some point [some of you may have seen my other threads about this situation]

Everyone is doing ok, but the tank seems kind of boring now....so I'm wondering if I could add anything to get more activity. Here are some additions I'm considering:

[A] 2 more firemouths
2 more red humps
[C] 3 red striped earth eaters
[D] 6 silver dollars
[E] electric blue jack dempsey

Would any of these work? Any other ideas, or should I leave the tank as-is?

Thanks!
Joel

I already have regular danios in another tank so not really interested in the big ones. I do have some interest in loaches, but concerned that clowns will get too big. What about yo-yos? I've read they grow to 6" which seems like a good size -- big enough to hold their own against the cichlids, but able to live in a 75g for life.

So I guess revised options would be:

2 more red hump ee's
[C] 3 red striped ee's
[D] 6 silver dollars
[E] electric blue jack dempsey
[F] 6-8 yo-yo loaches

?

If you add fish bump up your red hump count. Geos perfer to be in schools, this should make them more interesting to watch!

Yes, makes sense. I've seen groups of happy geos in the tanks at the LFS....Any way I could do more geos AND loaches, or would that be pushing it?

For this new plan, final stocking would be:
75g: Salvini, Firemouth, Honduran Red Point, Severum, 4 Red Hump Geos, 6 Yo-Yo Loaches, Raphael Cat

Too much?

bump? There's a good LFS on the way home from work. :grinno:

Filtration is AC110 and XP3. Substrate is play sand. Tank is lightly planted with rocks and driftwood.

Woot. Stopped by that LFS and they had red hump geos so I picked up 2 more. I was going to stop there, but they also had a lone yo-yo loach who was just sitting in a corner looking so sad....so I got him too!

Brought them home, acclimated, dropped them in. Initial impressions are:

2 new little geos have found the resident big guy and already are thick as thieves. They're cruising around the tank -- almost like a guided tour. I'm seeing the big guy shaking his head back and forth ... is that some kind of hierarchy-building behavior?

Salvini and Raphael are ignoring the newcomers except when it's necessary to shoo them away. The HRP is following them around a bit, in a curious way. Can't tell yet about the Firemouth. He's cruised with the geos a little, but I've also seen some mini-standoffs.

As for the lone yo-yo.....hid under a rock for a while, but now is exploring a bit... I think I will definitely have to get him some friends ASAP. I expect they have to be at least roughly the same size for that to work though, yes? He's about 3".

Thanks @abarilot and @MadAboutCichlid for the replies.
