My new female krib is very dark-colored and her gills are blue. Is this some type of weird sub-species?

Never mind. She died yesterday along with my new male for some completely unknown reason.

Was the tank cycled? I find that some fish will turn dark when stressed. Case in point green spotted puffers and Figure 8 puffers to name a couple.

It was cycled, very established, clean, etc. The male (who was the healthier looking of the two) died first.

How large were they? It might just have been the adult coloration. As my juvies are growing to adulthood, they are getting darker and more colorful with electric blue accents on the fins (haven't noticed on gills though).

Perhaps they were stressed at the lfs, and the stress of moving in to a different tank added to it? Perhaps they had some illness in conjunction? I really don't know. I've only had my kribs for a few months, and they are pretty young yet.

I am guessing that it was a store problem because I've had problems with (ONLY) kribs from there before. That's where I plan to get my new Firemouths, which were ordered just a few minutes ago (one of the managers likes me (and has offered me a job several times), so he ordered a batch for me to choose from) and will come in on Thursday for me to pick up on Friday. I have totally given up kribs because I have had 5 (and thought 6) die on me for no reason that I am at fault for. I could get them from other places, but they are the only place that is close at all to me.

Maybe there is a problem with the breeder. If the breeder has bad practices or has a problem with his/her tanks, then it would follow through the lfs but maybe without affecting the other fish?
