About the ick medicine treatment, I have read that you need to take out your carbon filters, do you need to do that with the salt treatment? If you take the filters out won't the tank get cloudy & dirty? How long should you leave the filters out, and how long should you do the salt treatmentfor the ick? Also is the salt called..Aquarium Salt, by: API ? Do you let the salt dissolve before adding to your tank?

You can use the carbon while doing salt treatment. There is no need for you to take out the filters. Keep them in the tank. Do salt treatment for two weeks minimum. We use table salt rather than waste a few bucks for aquarium salt.

Wait, isnt NaCl (table salt) toxic to fish? maybe you are talking about epsom or am i just wrong?
I'm talking about table salt. The iodine concentration is of no concern contrary to what people believe. If the salt itself was toxic to the fish, several fish wouldn't have survived in salt treatments against ich at all.

yes..don't use the shaker ;)

but the issue some may have is the iodine(many mfg don't use iodine any longer) and the anti caking (some of which have scarey names).
but the salt is food safe(edible)

I have a question about salt "delivery". I read this link from another post here on ich:

http://aquafacts.net/components/com_mambowiki/index.php/Ich

Good discussion. Using table salt, it says to start with a concentration of 1/4 tsp per gallon and then gradually increase to 2 tsp per gallon. Obviously dissolve the salt first.

One question - I am assuming that the dosing is cumulative? In other words 1/4 tsp/gal plus a second dose of 1/4 tsp/gal = 1/2 tsp per gallon. The next time I dose 1/4 tsp the concentration is 3/4 tsp per gallon, and so on. Once you get to the target dose, wait to change water (or resdose to desired concentration). Forgive me - it's been a long time since I've taken chemistry.

Also - I have 6 bleeding hearts and 2 angels in a 30g. I am slowly raising the temp to 82 up from 78 at ~1 degree per day. Can I go higher in temp?

One other note - the generic "table salt" I had on hand had some strange ingredients (sodium uihalsfhydlgtuaydlghsahide). My girlfriend had straight NaCl from the whole foods store, so I used that.

Dosed a 1/4 tsp/gal at lunch. Will try to up the dose to 2 tsp/gal over the next day or two.
