I have cycled a new 55 gallon freshwater aquarium, and am ready to add fish. I would like to have tropical fish, that are non-agressive. I would also like them to be colorful. Does anyone have suggestions for what I should add, and can I add them all at once, or do I need to do them 1 species at a time. Thanks.

Guppies are peaceful and colorful, BUT, make sure you go to a tropical fish store, not a big chain. My guppies are bad stock and I have lost several to diseases they had when I got them that I didn't know about. Also, they breed like rabbits. You could do tetras, like neons and bleeding hearts and black skirts. Rainbows are beautiful too. Do some research and see what strikes your fancy!! Try liveaquaria.com, they give good info!

platys are pretty colorful, ive got pictures of my red wags, they also have a rainbow blue color they come in. you could get some red and blue platys and certainly some guppies with them maybe even a dojo loach, the golden loach looks almost banana yellow and is very peaceful if in a tank with other peaceful fish. loaches are a lot of fun too when the berometric pressure changes with the weather they get excited and dance, i used to have one that always warned me about thunderstorms.

How you cycled the tank will determine how many you can add at once. Did you use any particular method to cycle the tank? What level of ammonia was your tank consuming in 24 hrs?
