today i finally recieved 10 dwarf gouramis via priority mail that i ordered from aquabid and i'm so excited. unfortunately, i had one doa. they weren't packaged too well, the bag had little water and the bag was able to tip onto it's side where most of them spent the trip laying down, i think.
hopefully this won't make any ill effects in them.

anyway, there's looking to be about 3 or 4 females i think, so i'm quite excited to get my breeding project under way. i have 3 tens set up for breeding pairs or trios, and a 34 rearing tank i'm setting up soon. they're all being kept in one ten gallon right now, because i recieved 6 dario dario for my boyfriend to breed today too that i'm holding for a day, but then i'm going to split them up a bit until i can get a heater for the third ten gallon.

i'm going to pick the best males, probably keep all of the females, and sell the other males.

anyone have any tips/tricks for breeding gouramis?
wish me luck, just wanted to share my excitement!

wow nice, i just started breeding dwarf gouramis too and im waiting for my female to come in at my lfs. he ordered her for me two weeks ago so im really anxious to get her.

cool, good luck with them. hopefully we can get some good stock of them out there.

Put lots of top cover in the breeding tanks. Like a upside down dixie cup or styrofoam cup. The more stuff near the surface the better they feel, Plus they need something to put there bubbles in. They love the freeze dried blood worms because they float on the surface, make sure the tank doesn't have a big current something calm like a sponge filter, and make sure you have something to feed the fry. Get some micro cultures and other live food cultures going so you can feed the hatched. They hatch pretty fast.

I have had my sparkling gourami's spawn twice but can never get them to survive more then a few weeks. I think I was just running the wrong setup. The spawning part isn't hard it's the rearing of the fry that is difficult.

awesome. very good information. how do you go about making your own culture and such, i've heard of this done but don't quite understand it..?
