Hired to make a 70 gallon SW tank....

Yep, that would be me, and thanks for welcome.
Not just showing off here(well, maybe a lil! lol)
But to give OP idea, this was the 180g I had w/ all the bells and whistles, tons of rock, good amount of corals, custom cab, and this tank would not exceed 8k for all new equipment prices(unless I really jacked up my cabinet building prices!)
So my opinion is for 2-3K you could have an impressive tank, 10K invested, you better have some huge mombo jombo system w/ a ton of high end corals!
I agree to buy quality equipment, but don't throw money to the sky either, cause even the budget minded end up spending more than expected, especially on corals, some get pretty pricey.

Amp, sokay! everyone makes mistakes :P
Dave, that is a gorgeous tank! Im jealous!
As for the ledge, my father is confident it will hold, and so I cannot move it. For the ledge above the tank, it can be removed, I dont know if you could tell by the pictures but there were 4-5 more shelves in there before that got moved for the tank.
As for the RO DI Unite, Im thinking a 75 gall will be sufficient. We do have water heaters up here! lol

For filter im still not sure. Ive never set up a sump personally but if someone could show me a diagram of what they have in it etc, it would be greatly appreciated.
As for an overflow box, my question never got answered!
I would love to build one in this tank even if it looks ugly, we will put it to the back side, how do I go about building one, does the tank need to be drilled for one.
As for buying a whole new tank etc etc, the stepmom wont let him. It was her tank beforehand and its got sentimentality to her etc etc. I understand.

As for a skimmer, I was thinking of putting it in the sump if I can figure out how to get one in there without drilling. as well as heaters would most liekly go in the sump etc. If I can pull off this sump on this 70 gallon, I will be putting on on my brack tank because I have always liked the idea better than a canister filter.

There are so many options, and many debate over best sump design, and best tank setup overall, so it's kinda hard to give advice, especially w/out seeing all this first hand, and knowing your abilities w/ woodwork and plumbing.
I'm a big fan of simple and efficient, so I'll tell you what I would do, but really should take in many opinions and decide for yourself.
I personally would hack at the shelving below, enough to make room for a 30g sump, that would be good enough size to house equipment and add a fuge.
I would after hacking shelves, add a panel on each side vertically to add support.
If tank bottom is not tempered, I'd drill it.
It would be nice to make it a peninsula tank, viewable from 3 sides, so OF box would be against wall.
I'll post pics of a basic sump I built when I find pics.
It can be easy, or as complicated as you want to make it depending on gear added.

Actually, water that is too warm can damage a RO membrane, which is why they are connected only to the cold water line.

That is correct, and a good point, cold water only.
Spectrapure IMO is the best RO/DI, but not cheap.
Filterguys and bulk reef supply are also good options.
These are pics of a pretty basic sump.

Same sump, but w/ protein skimmer added.
This was a way too big euro skimmer, a octo extreme is a decent choice, and the Tunze DOC's are great as well, and take up much less space.

So how does the sump connect to the tank if it is not drilled? is it connected by the overflow or what?

2 ways of doing this, either drill tank and build an overflow box(not really as hard as it sounds, and this is my first choice) or use a hang on overflow box.
