PVC Pipe Opinions

What I do is cut 1.5" PVC into a bunch of 6" sections and drop them into a pot of boiling water. After a minute or two the PVC softens up quite nicely. Pull them out with a pair of pliers or tongs or something, stick one end in a vice and crank it down flat, and wait for it to cool. When it cools it will retain its shape, and you end up with something in a similar shape to the clay caves.

Aquarium silicone (or GE Silicone I for windows and doors) adheres to PVC pretty well. Even better if you rough the surface up with sandpaper first. As far as what kind of stones, any kind you want as long as they are clean and tank-safe.

Another place to look if you're willing to order is on www.plecofanatics.com. A member there (Zcliff) makes granite caves. I'm not sure if he still does, but they were really nice. The top was removable (just sits on top), so they are really nice and easy to clean and check for eggs, etc. I think he makes another kind too, but I'm not sure. I haven't been on Pleco Fanatics for a while (it's too tempting while I've got limited room for now...).

I dropped a broken brick in my tank and my BN's starting breeding. Its not PVC helpful, but it might work for you too

this could in the longrun be a bad thing

bricks are made of concrete, and fairly soft

this will harden your water a LOT

make sure all the fish in the tank are ok with hard water

Have you looked into Large pieces of bamboo? I was told that you can get it from a florist and cut it too the size you want. That would work to keep the natural look.
