Finally got some GBR's!

I went and bought a pair of German Blue Ram juveniles today. I hope everything works out. I'm not necessarily trying to breed them, but I hope they pair well.

The funniest thing happened when I put them in the tank. One of the blue tetras approached one of the rams and kind of nibbled on the rams mouth. It was so weird. The ram didn't flinch or anything. If I didn't know any better I would think they were "making out" or something, ha. Has anyone ever seen this? Or can you tell me why?

Also when I looked real close at the female I noticed some stringy thing hanging off of the tail about a quarter inch long. It almost looked like a small piece of cobweb. What could this be?

Hopefully I'll get some pics up soon since it's a new tank/stock.

Yea I looked again today, and it's gone now. It must have been some kind of debris. The two of them seem to be acclimating well. The female is definitely the more timid of the two, until I threw in a few blood worms. I think the male thinks that the bubbles created by the filter's return are food. He's always trying to bite them. Anyhow hopefully I get some pics up soon.

I used to do rams, I've never had good luck with them though. So I turned their tank into a female betta sorority tank. Hope you have better luck then me.

Thanks, I hope so too. I've read up on them and know they're sensitive to water conditions. I'm pretty consistent with my water changes etc. so hopefully things work out.

Thanks, that's reassuring. The owner at the place I got them from said he gets his fish from a local farm. I figured that would at least mean I have a better chance at them being used to my water. Hopefully it means they are better quality. He didn't know where the farm got them from.

I noticed that the female has this white tissue around her mouth and a white spot developing above the mouth, below the eye. I tried to get pics of the female, but my point-n-shoot won't cooperate. It almost looks like dead tissue. I also noticed the male bully's the female sometimes. She seems very timid. Any idea's?
