Hi All! Possible to ID my plecos? Plz?

Hey guys! I forgot to mention that the lighter colored pleco, changes colors to suit his/her environment. The darker one doesn't. I don't know if that makes a diff in ID..I don't know how common it is for plecos to change their color.
I can't believe I forgot to mention that in my orig post.

Thanks BettaObsession.

IceQueen, I'll have to look that one up, thanks.

Dani

Thanks everyone.

GER1023,
The lighter colored pleco, which is shown in the last 3 pics, has more of a vermiculated pattern..you don't think it is a P. disjunctivus?
I was just reading up on them both on planetcatfish since you gave me a direction to go in, lol..thank you!
It says; 'P. pardalis has a spotted pattern, where P. disjunctivus has a vermiculated pattern.'

I read this on several other sites as well.

My darker pleco, has weird spots, I wouldnt even know how to describe them, but the lighter one (the one on the left in the top 3 pics, and the one in the last 3 pics) def seems to me to have a vermiculated pattern on it's belly.

I'm not challenging you in any way, lol..you DEF know way more than I do regarding plecos, ;)
And it's really not THAT important for me to know exactly what they are, I am just very curious..and its like, nagging at me.
Ya know, it's like when someone says, 'hey nice fish'..I wanna be able to tell them what types of plecos they are..not just look like some idiot and go..'uhhh..they're plecos.':duh::laugh:

Anyway, so what do you think about the lighter one maybe being P. disjunctivus ?
Or am I just way wrong?

I had to look up the rhino pleco..he's cool lookin!

Thanks again!

I was reading that also like last week which I am curious about. Seeing as how most of the Ptery family are farm produced I would think its safe to say that the ones in the home aquaria are a mix of the 2. I have seen both spotted and vermiculated which come together from the same breeder at the Walmart I work at. Also I have seen others that look half spotted half verm. If these were wild caught Ide say sure I was wrong but those are not really imported due to there low depand from them being farmed.

But yeah got me on that one was gonna look for the name but pardalis is easier to remember then disjunctivus. Its better to look up info on pardalis then disjuntivus cuz most people classify em both under pardalis. I got a pic on my phone of both patterns on the belly. Ill share it when i upload it.

IMO on the right of pic #1 is L001 P. joselimaianus

on the left of pic#1 is L021 p. pardalis

The patterns on the undersides of the fish are the give away. L21 has a circular pattern, the L001 has elongated gold spots/stripes.
HTH

Sorry buddy none of the pleco's on here are Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus. Those are easily identified specially by me since I have one in my 53gal aquarium. L-001 looks totally differant.

Thanks Ger,
yeah thats exactly what I was thinking, probably alot of mutts out there in the 'common' pleco world.
I also agree that the info on the disjunctivus alone isnt that easy to come by. The two are lumped together everywhere.
Thanks for sharing the pic, that fish (sorry I dont know what kind it is) behind the pleco on the right looks like he's comin in for a sneak attack, lol. I can hear the theme song from 'Jaws'...the poor lil unsuspecting pleco, lol.
Who's the lil guy on the leaf in the background?

Thanks for all your help, it is greatly appreciated!

I am having a hard time finding bogwood, mopani, or anything I want in pet stores. Wonder if you or anyone else peekin in here can help me with this question..
I have a nice chunk of wood on a piece of slate from a terrarium. I have no clue what kind of wood it is.
Would it be OK if I treat it w/boiling water and then use that in the tank?
The only thing I am worried about is the fact that, I was gonna take the slate off to lay the wood down in the tank, but the wood is falling apart down where it is screwed into the slate, kinda just crumbling. So I was thinking I could sand it down real good, then silicone the slate back to it, I dont want the screws to rust in the tank.. Pour some boiling water on it a few times in a big rubbermaid bin, it's too big for a pot.
Would sanding it down and using the silicone on that bottom part help to keep it from crumbling even more? The bottom where the slate is, is the only place the crumbling is happening. The rest of the wood is great.

I kinda hate to give it to the plecos, I love how it looks and have it next to my comp desk, lol. But I am getting desperate.

I also have some smaller pieces of natural driftwood I brought home from the beach, though it is all 2 years old & older, and has spent those years in my garden by the pond, out in the elements, I am worried about salt content, no matter how much I boil it..so I am scared to use that. I can get that anytime I want as I am pretty close to the beach.
Is there any way to get all the salt out?

thanks,
Dani

Thanks bout the pic those are acutually fish from my job. The fish in the back bout to do a sneak attack lol is a Red Bellied Pacu was one of only 2 left since we no longer carry Pacu's. The lil guy on the leaf is another "common pleco".

Your driftwood on your desk I would worry bout it falling apart may be a sign of decay which is bad for your fish. Driftwood from the beach is used alot by different people here I have not used it personally. I have used driftwood I found in the mountains it was from a Manzanita tree. I also got a Manzanita root burl in my tank they look awesome.

Whith the pieces you got outside I would just boil them a couple times and theat will get out the salt and steralize it. Also will help your driftwood sink. Just make sure to boil it several times to be safe. Your pleco's dont trully need driftwood although mine loves it ignores algea wafers now and I see nothing but brown poops in the tank only good thing I see is there not long like when he did eat the wafers. Looks like saw dust lol
