Cories and Kuhlies

The rule of thumb with them is the more you have, and the more hiding places they have, the more you see them. If you have a lot of them but few hiding places, they sometimes tend to congregate in what few hiding places they can find. If you have lots of hiding places, but too few of them, they stay hidden all the time. If you have enough of them, and enough hiding places, they will come out because they feel safer/more confident that they can escape danger.

They love plants. I had one that lived in a plant for a year or better. He rarely came out. Of course, at the time, I only had three of them, so they didn't have the numbers they should have. The plant was about perfect for them, a big wad of floating wisteria. Sometimes you couldn't find the little booger for days because the plant was so dense...he'd just worm his way through looking for food.

I took those three (three banded, although one is of a slightly different species subset) and put them in a larger tank with six black kuhlis. They all seem to get along fine. I acually need to work on getting more hiding places in the tank, as the stinking pleco keeps pulling up my plants.

Yeah, I've only got 4 Kuhli in my tank (banded) I think 2 are definately Pangio Kuhli- the other two are a different species is my guess based upon being more stout and taller- slightly less worm like and when the lights first come on in the morning their base colour is quite different/ less washed. (once lights have been on awhile base colour looks the same).

I only ever see black kuhlis locally... I don't like the blacks as much- but I want to increase my numbers- although even at 4 they seem social. I have noticed my two Pangio Kuhli seem to hang together and my two of the other species (not yet identified hang together seperately)- although they occasionally join into a group of four.

They are hard to find anymore. You see the black kuhlis a lot, they have them at Petsmart even, but the banded are harder to come across. You might check with any hobbyist shops to see if they can special order. They usually have them online for sale too, if you want to go the aquabid route.

just remember once you put in khuli's they're NEVER coming out and occasionally find one in the filter intact.

I have khuli's..3 banded and 3 black. They are my favorites by far. I see them all the time, especially during feeding time. It's so funny to see them pile out of their hidey hole for food. It's alot like watching clowns pile out of a clown car. <3 their lil seal faces! :)

Your stock list sounds good. I agree that the angels could be problematic in the future though.

Maybe a pair of pearl gourami would be better..IDK
