i have a 55 gallon fish tank, with 10 tiger barbs, 2 german blue rams, and 3 peppered corys. what do you notice about all these fish? they're all similar size. im aware that if i got another cichlid, i might have to rid of my beautiful rams...

my question is, is there any cichlid i could put in my tank? i'd like to add a big fish..people have suggested severums, but well..the gold variant is ugly, and the green...isnt really green? its just a moldy green/brown fish? not very exciting.. lol

thanks in advance!

Ummm...blue rams are cichlids. So yes, its possible ;)

I'd be partial to switching out the rams for kribs. Not that I prefer them over rams (I dont) but they'd fit the bill and more likely to coexist with the barbs. Maybe you just need a change...only a random thought.

thats not an option im willing to go with, cause kribs are rather boring, and my barbs dont bug my rams.

You could try your hand at discus, they would be quite a bit larger compared to your tankmates and would co-exist nicely. If your not set on the cichlids then you could go with gouramis or a black ghost knife for an eye catcher. Angels would work as well. Any cichlid once its gets bigger than your rams are going to bully them and rip their fins or so has been my experience.

Why not get another pair of rams? You could go with the gold variety, electric blue, and bolivian. Keyhole cichlids could also work.

I have some 2" chanchito juvies available that would mix well with your current stock. Males grow to about 5" (so I'm told), but mine is actually 4", female is smaller. Pretty mellow fish all around, even a bonded breeding pair claims a territory smaller than half your 55. Here's a pic of the breeding pair:

Priority Mail is $11 for a medium flat-rate box, I can pack up to 6 in that size w/out any problems. If you want 1-2 I can ship them in a smaller box for $8.

IMO---Rainbows, Jewels, Keyholes, Firemouths, Serverums, Festivums, ect. are OK with Tiger Barbs.
