Yep, male. I'd take out that one that is hiding. It definitely sounds like the female is interested in the new male, and I'd bet it's only a matter of time. My males seemed to be ignoring my females also, even thought the females were shaking and trembling and purple-colored. Then to my surprise, one morning there were 20 little babies in a cloud around one of my pairs. Sometimes, it's hard to see the interest of the male until after the babies are out.
IMHO, I would keep a breeding pair in a tank just for them. I made the mistake of having them in a 75g community tank, and I have lost at least 5 Diamond tetras and had a lot of stressed fish when they bred. Biggest mistake of my fishkeeping hobby I have made so far. I love the kribs, but they really do need a lot of space when breeding. You might already have that set up, but if anyone else is thinking about breeding kribs, be warned! They are one of the easiest fish to breed, besides livebearers, but they are sooooo aggressive when protecting their babies.
