Okay. Here is the deal. Had a 55 freshwater community. Leaked. Put fish is 20 gallon is bedroom. Now i can get another aquarium from the company. Don't know what size to get and what to stock it with. Needs to be small enough to put in my bedroom as my mother did not like water in her living room.

I was thinking about a 37 gallon with lake malawi cichlids but everywhere i read says no. I also want to put my red-tailed shark in the new tank as 20 gallons with giant danio is just too small.

I want something different. I have had gouramis, swordtails, mollies, platys, corys, and clown loaches. Not partial to angelfish.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Get a 55 high so it can fit in your bed room and you can put the fish in there who lost their home?.

I like the apisto idea...

i think i got it.
I think i am going to go with a pair of german blue rams(if i can find them, never seen them in any fish stores in my area), my red-tailed shark, either a small pleco or some cory, maybe a gourami, and probably some jumbo neon tetra.

Any problems that you guys can see? I know the shark is aggressive but he does fine in my livebearer tank even though it is way overstocked.

Just make sure your water stays pristine. GBR's are delicate when it comes to water. My water out of the tap is hard (gh & kh are 180+) with a pH of approx 7.5, my two GBR's did very well as long as I did atleast a bi-weekly 15-20% water change. Now I'm on to Africans and of course this water suits them well also (with a bit of crushed coral for buffer).

I know that isn't necessarily the water perimeters that they (rams) are listed as preferring, but they did very well for me.

EDIT: <----------- That was my ram to the left in my profile pic :)
