I dont understand why people refer to the fish from the osteoglossidae family as arowana, I dont realy accept it.
in australia the native scleropages (jardinii and liecardti) are known as saratoga, some less informed call the barramundi. (completley different family). so why is this? is it asian?
and i cant stand people calling my 84cm liecardti an aro.
and please dont tell me the story of where their from, the variations,
i already know, i study these fish obsesivley.
I just want to know about the name arowana.

cheers

also whats the go with the name dawson river salmon?
I live on the dawson and have fished right through to the fitzroy.
also I know the untouched whereabouts of a 123cm liecardti, which i have caught and realesed unharmed into safe waters, where it will not be botherd again.
it has the tag DLH354

It's a common name.......
It's the same reason we call Astronotus ocellatus an Oscar. I have no idea where it came from, but it is what it is. If figured you could tell us since you study them ;)

Also, I'd LOVE to see a picture of a lei. that big:)

now photo's of who?, wild 123cm or my 84cm captive?
and in all my studie's I've found nothing on the reason behind the name, aro.

if its a pic of the monster, there might be a little while,
but I can throw up some wild caught, and personal pond specimens.
if your all interested in the meen time

Why saratoga?
