I just got a new 10 gallon and a stand. After assembly, I set the tank on top and noticed that it's not quite flush with the top of the stand -- one corner of the tank is a bit 'higher' than the stand's top.

The tank is supported only by the edges -- the stand is not a solid flat top. Here is a picture:

Should I attempt to put a soft mediating material between the tank bottom and the stand? I'm thinking of something like a thin sheet of Styrofoam that can help take some of the torque off of the tank when it's full of water.

The stand is metal, and cheap, and I don't think I can level the top of it easily. But I'm open to ideas.

Or is this not necessary with a tank so small?

What do you use? Cork, styrofoam? How thick?

The stand is badly designed for sure. To make the engineering cheaper, they don't attempt to make the front and back crossbars level with the sides at all. The sides of the tank and a few inches along the front and back are supported. But you're right, due to the bad design I think I'll just return it.

Thanks for the responses.
